Review & Description

This necklace is from the Himalayan area. It is made with cotton and yak bone. The string is adjustable. On the pendant, a Buddha Eyes symbol and a Tibetan prayer, om mani padme hum, were carved. On virtually every Buddhist shrine in Nepal, there are giant pairs of eyes staring out from the four sides of the main tower. These are Buddha Eyes, and they look out in the four directions to symbolize the omniscience of a Buddha. The Buddha eyes are so prevalent throughout the country that they have become a symbol of Nepal itself. Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying the mantra (prayer), Om Mani Padme Hum, out loud or silently to oneself, invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion. This item is handmade in Nepal.
